Before Your Facial Acupuncture Appointment

Pre-Treatment Information

Your preparation shapes how your body receives the work. These recommendations help you realise the best outcome from treatment.

Hydration

Begin drinking water three days before your appointment. You will likely bruise less, and the treatment will work more effectively. Diuretics - coke, alcohol, caffeine - dehydrate you. Avoid them in this window.

Sun exposure

Avoid sunbeds and strong sunlight for two weeks before treatment, throughout the series, and for two weeks after. If you will be in strong sun, use SPF 20 or above.

Blood thinners

Fish oil supplements, garlic supplements, and aspirin can increase bruising. It's recommended you do not take these for three days before treatment, unless prescribed by your doctor. If you do take them, you are likely to bruise more.

Recent injectables

If you have had Botox in the past 14 days, acupuncture will reduce its effect. If you have had filler in the past 14 days, needles cannot be placed in that area. Please mention this at your appointment so your treatment plan can be discussed.

What to wear

Wear a top with a loose neckline. High collars restrict access to the treatment area.

Eating

Eat a light meal about an hour before your appointment. This prevents a drop in blood sugar and helps your system stay stable during treatment.

Arnica

If you bruise easily, taking arnica tablets before and after treatment is recommended.
